Phavaraea rectangularis originally described in Pseudophaloe Hering, 1925 (Arctiidae: Pericopinae)
James S. Miller and Andrew V. Z. BrowerIntroduction
Known from three specimens, all collected in French Guiana, this species was described as a pericopine arctiid in the genus Pseudophaloe, but as Miller (2009) notes, it possesses the unique josiine tympanal structure and typical josiine genitalia. However, it does not exhibit abdominal androconial patches like other Phavaraea species, and it has a number of apparent autapomorphies that suggest it is fairly divergent from other members of the genus.References
