Scientific Name Campylobacter fetus
Comments This scanning electron micrograph depicts a grouping of Gram-negative Campylobacter fetus bacteria, magnified 4,976x. The “S-shaped” C. fetus bacterium, also known as C. fetus ssp. intestinalis or Vibrio fetus var. intestinalis, is an opportunistic human pathogen with a worldwide distribution pattern.

Specimen Condition Dead Specimen

Scientific Name Helicobacter sp. flexispira
Comments This scanning electron micrograph depicts a grouping of Gram-negative ”Flexispira rappini” bacteria, magnified 13,951x. Its name ”F. rappini” is considered provisional, for it was never formally proposed or accepted. Subsequently determined to be closely related to Helicobacter spp., it is referred to as Helicobacter sp. flexispira in the literature.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
